Visit Ormskirk Parish Church

The Church is normally open to visitors on Thursdays and Saturdays (Ormskirk Market Days) from Spring to Autumn. However, bespoke visits, in particular for those interested in the organ, or the rich history of the building, can be arranged by contacting the Parish Office at: http://ormskirkpc@outlook.com/ and leaving contact details. For those arriving by car, the following map may be helpful regarding the dreadful one-way system and the car parks:

Approaching along A59 from Liverpool:

The Church has a small private car park, accessed via the cobbles by the main gate (opposite the ‘Turquaz’ restaurant)  The public car parks are Pay & Display except for Sundays and Bank Holidays.  All are marked on the map below.

Pass Christ Church, Aughton (the large church on the top of the hill) and descend into Ormskirk.  At the large roundabout, take the right-hand fork (3rd exit, signposted Town Centre), keeping the Fire Station on your left.  Go straight on at mini-roundabout.  (this is the road indicated as being to ‘Liverpool & Aughton; A59, on the above map). At traffic lights, turn left.  Pass Morrisons on left.  As road swings around to the right, follow it round up the hill and the church will become obvious on your left (be careful; it’s not visible because of the graveyard wall until you are almost on top of it!).  An alternative is to follow the one-way system past the church, bear right at the east end of the church and turn first right into car park 8 (‘Stiles’) from where it is possible to walk through, although you will then have to cross a very busy road to reach the church.  Parking fees are in force, but it is only £1 for three hours.  DO NOT park in Car Park 3 (Two Saints; opposite Morrison’s entrance) as this is privately managed and charges you exorbitantly, if you dare to go over the first (free) hour.  Also, it’s done by APNR, so you will only find out when you get a threatening letter!

If approaching from Southport/Wigan/St Helens, you will need to negotiate the one-way system until you find yourself passing Morrison’s, on your left; after that, continue as indicated above.

Please note that Thursdays and Saturdays are the two market days in Ormskirk, which puts additional pressure on parking.  However, you might like to arrive earlier and browse the market stalls in Aughton Street, Moor Street and Church Street.

Alternatively, you may prefer to access the town by train; it is an easy walk from the station, which is identified on the map by ‘Car Park 12’
